Mine is an Oil Free, when a convector heater heats up the heat produced by the element is lost immediately to the surrounding air, where as mine being a new eco friendly Oil Free Rad, uses electric for a short while to heat the liquid in the radiator then this new liquid holds the heat for a very long time and continues to heat the surrounding air.
I quit often lean over mine to get something and feel the heat radiating from it, I look at the power lights at the front to see if its actually burning electric but 9 times out of 10 its liquid inside the rad thats giving off the heat, the power has actually been turned off by the built in thermostat.
As I said before since I got this heater British Gas have cuts my monthly bills from £88.00 a month to £57.00 a month
Before next winter I am going to get one of these Rads for our own bedroom and the living room.
