Exclamation Moth trap conversion update!

Hi all, just wanted to show you all my moth trap conversion. It has been working excellent with the black bulb but the new bulb has more uv and a broader spectrum. So should attract more and also different species. It also now has a rain guard to protect to bulb, now i dont have to leave it in the plastic green house to shield it from the rain. It can be out in the open so will allow easier access for the moths to enter as they can enter from all directions now not just through the doorway of the greenhouse so that should be a lot better. It is my first trial run tonight so ill give it a few nights then update see how i get on. Thanks .....

Looking good, just make sure the water doesent run down on the inside of the screen and drip onto the electrics, perhaps ad a little angle to the sceen may prevent this. Have you caught a Deaths head moth yet ?

Wink

yes mate i understand what you mean ive made it so there is a slight fall on the perspex so all the water runs of one side of it & the cable is as insulated as i can this is how they build traps also there is a hole drilled in the bottom of these traps in case any water gets inside the trap. And no i havnt caught the deaths head yet. But it would be nice.

No i havnt caught any hawk moths as yet loads of others though a nice garden tiger moth which is rare. See below. It is nice to catch rarer moths but it wasnt designed for this it was designed to cach food for my mantids and if thats all it ever does its saving me some pennies and giving my mantids a varied diet im happy with that. Cheers.......
