Found this in the trap this morning. Anyone know what it is? It was about 1 3/4" long.

I highly recommed these moth traps as you just dont know what your going to come out to each morning, as I have found out over the last week. Great fun while the weathers good.

Buff-tip Phalera bucephala

Wingspan 42-55 mm.

When at rest, the adults of this species bear a remarkable resemblance to a broken twig of silver birch.

The species is widely distributed throughout Britain, and quite common, especially in the southern half.

The yellow-and-black caterpillars live gregariously and feed on a number of different deciduous trees, sometimes defoliating entire branches.

The adults fly in June and July, frequenting mixed woodland.

Nice catch Kernow. I have not seen one of those close up. Another big beauty. You are convincing me I need one of these traps

Thanks for the info. Andie. I can expect a few more of them over the next month or so then.

If there is anything I shouldnt be feeding to my mantids (cause its rare or poisonous) please let me know Thanks.

Well I fed my Gongys one of those Cinnabar moths last Thursday and its still looking fine so Im guessing they arent poisonous to mantids. I'll let you know if it drops dead over the next week or so.

I fed one to my giant asian no problem, but a few days later it refused them so perhaps they taste bad to a mantis

Hey Desana,
That moth catcher is freaking sweet! It's really well made and effective. Quick question, where did you get you energy saver black light from? Can never have too many round the house, haha

Best
