Default My first Mantis: Wahlii.

Here are a couple of pictures of my very first mantis my Wahlbergii.

Last night it shed to reveal it`s wings. This is the first time for me so I was incredibly excited. One pic is of the shedding.

My camera is not good so my apoligies for the poor quality.

Can someone sex my mantis for me from the second pic if that is possible? I have decided that it is female then changed my mind so many times. as I said, this is my first ever mantis so I am hoping that you guys out there will be able to cast your expert eyes and sex it for certain.

Congrats, I still get a sense of awe and excitement even now when they moult.

From the shape of it look's like it's a male, to be 100% a sideon pic or a shot from underneth would be better.

Thanks guys. I`ll see what I can do.

By the way, can they fly. He spreads his wings for a couple of seconds but that`s all.

he is male cause there are no spikes either side of his wings, and they are very good fliers imo! females will just fall with their wings open and say "ooh i can fly" they seem to spread their wings and flap them more often then other mantids which is cool and a great oppurtunity for a photo,

Remember this is a freshly moulted adult, the abdomen would not be fully expanded so the abdomen protrusions either side of the wings would not be as visable, although with a female I would expect to see alittle more as they do protrude further than the males.
Still I'm 99% sure it is male
